Update on this substack and new book
Hello! Merry Christmastime!
As this year begins to come to a close, I wanted to give an update on what I’m planning for this publication, as well as the new iteration of my paywalled perks as we go into 2024.
I’m still going to be writing!
First, I just want to say that yes, I am going to keep writing posts! And free posts at that. This substack has not turned into a Bible Study only. In fact, the 3-month Bible study is about to come to an end. I have post ideas queued on drinking/alcohol. I have a draft on dating (eek). I have more posts on God. More stories to tell. I have people I want to talk to for the podcast. So, there will be more of the fun stuff coming.
I’ve been a little distracted, first because I’ve been running the 3-month bible study and it’s been pretty intense, schedule-wise. But also: I’ve actually been sitting down every day and writing my third book. Finally. In fact, today I am not, because I had to write this instead! So that is my current juggle. The book is about my journey to/with God… and about all the witchy things I did along the way… it’s like… New Age Demons, but the book version. At least that’s my goal.
I just sent a half of a manuscript length to my agent so… we will see. Half of the book’s chapter title stand-ins below…
The Bible Study is winding down
Right now, I’m finishing off a whirlwind marathon-of-a-reading plan with a group behind the paywall, reading through the New Testament. We are finishing up week 10 of 13. We’ve had weekly zooms, and daily readings/comment convos, and it’s really been wonderful. Even more wonderful than I expected, but it’s also been a lot. So I want to continue the fun into the new year, but with a slower pace, and I hope you’ll join!
My hope is that it will be less daunting to the many (100 or so!) of you who wanted to join in with the Bible study reading plan, but got overwhelmed by it’s pace.
A solid 10-20 of us committed to the reading and zoom calls, and the group of us ranges from lifelong Christians, to skeptical and curious newbies, not sure what they believe, but open. And it’s really just been so cool, especially the zoom calls where we talk about our experiences, questions about God and faith, go over the readings, and get to know each other.
The zooms have been so fun and fulfilling, that I want them to continue in the new year, and again: I want to invite you to join us! We will kick off 2024 with another book club, this time on Mere Christianity by CS Lewis. (At a way slower pace!)
I’m currently thinking through how that one will be organized… again it definitely won’t be as fervent as this one. I’m thinking there will be just one monthly post, with monthly reading assignment, and our discussion in the comments. And we will have two monthly zoom calls for “God talk” and discussion of the readings :-)
The format may adapt a bit as we go, and as I figure out what’s best for the majority of us, but that’s my thought as we start. I will be sending out the zoom call schedule soon. Right now we have had calls at night at 8 pm EST, and some 2 pm EST calls for the people in Europe to join. And always replays available! More details to come.
Who are the God Talk calls for?
This upcoming book club and the God Talk zoom calls are really for anyone who is God or Jesus ‘curious,’ or anyone who wants to connect with other people who are deepening their faith. A lot of us are “ex-new age” but not all. It’s been a diverse bunch, with diverse backgrounds. It’s been very cool, and honestly very helpful, to have people at different places in their faith journey. You are allowed to ask big questions. You’re allowed to be confused. You’re allowed to not know what you believe!
How to Join us?
All you have to do to join us, is join us behind the paywall. The comments on the book club posts aren’t able to be seen by the general public or free subscribers — only other paid subscribers and participants can read and participate. This gives us a little bit of privacy as we work through our big questions about God, and all that comes with it. And it’s also become one of the big perks and “thank yous” of being a paid subscriber here, (besides the audios of posts and ability to comment!)
Want to join us sooner than 2024?
If you want to join in for these last few weeks of 2023, you are welcome to join our last few zoom calls, introduce yourself and get to know us too. Info for zooms is in the latest weekly post in the Bible Study tab. We talk about God/Jesus, generally. The convos are informed by the New Testament readings we have been doing, but again these “God Talk” zoom calls will continue and take on a new life in 2024. I hope you join in if you haven’t yet!
Otherwise, plan to join us on the calls in a few weeks, in Jan 2024!
